The primary gabion wall features 500mm steps, commencing from 3 m base. 

Gabion Mattresses are installed on the roadway, positioned 50mm lower than the surrounding gabions to allow for a concrete topping. 

Concrete is being pored onto the lowered gabion mattresses on the road. 

Stage 4Stabilizing the upstream side of the Spillway

3.5m deep cut-off trench lined with Geo synthetic Clay Liner.

1.0m Tall gabion wall constructed on gabion mattresses, with a 3.5m vertical Geosynthetics Clay Liner positioned behind the gabions. 

Stage 5Installation of checked dams to reduce the velocity of the water

Check dams are small barriers constructed across dongas or streams to prevent erosion and manage water flow. They play a crucial role incontrolling soil erosion by slowing down water velocity and promoting sediment deposition. The use of geotextile in check dams is essentialas it provides a stable foundation, preventing soil displacement and enhancing the dam’s durability. Additionally, placing a gabion mattresson the geotextile helps mitigate the impact of hydraulic jump, a phenomenon where fast-moving water meets slower water, causingpotential erosion at the dam’s base. This combination effectively protects the structure and surrounding environment from erosion.

In hydraulic engineering, addressing erosion along riverbanks and bends are critical. Our Solution? The gabion cutt-off wall strategically placed at the outside bend, where water velocity peaks and erosion threatens stability.

The cutt-off wall is precisely positioned on the outer curve of the river or channel. Here, water accelerates due to centrifugal forces, making erosion more pronounced.
