EFFECTIVE SLOPE STABILIZATION WITH GEOGRIDS, SUBSOIL DRAINS, AND GEOTEXTILES

The white mesh in the picture is geogrid, which reinforces soil on slopes. It stabilizes the ground, spreads loads, and reduces erosion to keep slopes stable, especially in areas at risk of groundwater-related slips. The thick grey line shows the subsoil drain installed to remove groundwater.

The back of the gabions is covered with vertical geotextile material that lets water pass through while keeping the soil out.

The picture shows the preparation of a subsoil fin drain, a narrow, vertical drain used to remove groundwater. It consists of a perforated pipe wrapped in filter material, allowing water to enter while keeping soil out. The water is then channeled away, reducing slope instability and keeping the ground dry and stable.

The geotextile is placed horizontally under the gabion and extends vertically up the back. This setup allows water to flow through while keeping the soil out.
