A detailed survey was conducted to assess the extent of the dam wall slip and accurately record the position and levels of seepage points relative to the dam wall height. The findings confirmed that uncontrolled water movement at multiple levels was eroding the embankment, posing a significant risk of piping failure, where water carries fine soil particles, weakening the structure over time.
To stabilize the dam wall and prevent further material loss, vertical subsoil fin drains were installed at key levels to intercept and redirect seepage. These drains slope towards a central collection pipe, effectively lowering hydrostatic pressure and preventing soil migration. This targeted drainage system enhances the dam’s stability and extends its lifespan by maintaining the integrity of the embankment material.
